Portrait: David Kent Watson

Hi, I’m Drew Durepos, a filmmaker and writer based in Chicago. I enjoy making films about loved ones, travel, and the Absurd. I tend to work in modes such as experimental documentary and personal essay—the two most popular styles of filmmaking. One day, I’ll make something overtly political, but so far, I’m too scared. My sense of humor informs my work but has—perhaps like yours—been enervated by the jump-the-shark reality we presently share. My background in commercial production, spanning micro-budget features to studio films and television shows, informs my understanding of the filmmaking process and haunts my dreams. I graduated with an MFA from the Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2018. Thanks so much for reading this.
