Portrait: David Kent Watson

Drew Durepos is a filmmaker and writer based in Chicago. He enjoys making films about loved ones, travel, and the Absurd. He tends to work in modes such as experimental documentary and personal essay—the two most popular styles of filmmaking. One day, he’ll make something overtly political, but so far, he’s too scared. His sense of humor informs his work but has—perhaps like yours—been enervated by the jump-the-shark reality we presently share. His background in commercial production, spanning micro-budget features to studio films and television shows, informs his understanding of the filmmaking process and haunts his dreams. He graduated with an MFA from the Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2018.
